SAFE WATER PROJECT REPORT Borehole Repair Initiative Funded by Swimwearbali.com 20th April 2026

On 20th, April 2026, Furaha Foundation carried out a targeted borehole repair initiative to restore access to clean and safe water in underserved communities in Uganda.  This project was made possible through the generous support of Swimwearbali.com , who funded the repair of one borehole. Through strategic planning, efficient use of resources, and strong teamwork on the ground, our team was able to extend the impact beyond expectations successfully repairing two boreholes instead of one.

Kigulu vilage, bulamagi sub county, Iganga uganda

Impact

The restored boreholes are now providing reliable access to clean water for hundreds of residents who previously depended on unsafe or distant water sources.  This intervention is already contributing to improved hygiene, reduced risk of waterborne diseases, and saving valuable time especially for women and children.

BEFORE RESTORATION

Before the intervention, both boreholes were non-functional, leaving the surrounding communities without access to safe and reliable water.   As a result, residents were forced to depend on unsafe water sources such as open streams and unprotected wells. These sources were often contaminated, exposing families to serious health risks, including waterborne diseases.   The situation created daily hardship. Women and children had to walk long distances to fetch water, spending hours each day on a basic necessity. This not only affected household wellbeing but also disrupted children’s education and reduced time for productive activities within the community.

💧 AFTER RESTORATION

Following the successful repair of both boreholes, the communities now have restored access to clean, safe, and dependable water sources.  The rehabilitated boreholes are currently serving hundreds of residents, significantly reducing the distance and time required to collect water. This has led to immediate improvements in hygiene, sanitation, and overall health.  With safe water now available nearby, children are able to attend school more consistently, and families can focus on their daily activities without the constant burden of searching for water. This intervention has not only restored water access but has also renewed hope, dignity, and stability within the communities.

1st BOREHOLE.

Before: Broken/damaged borehole site

BEFORE RESTORATION

Before this intervention, the affected communities were facing serious challenges in accessing safe and reliable water. The boreholes had broken down and were no longer functional, forcing residents especially women and children to walk long distances in search of water. In many cases, people resorted to collecting water from unsafe sources such as open streams and shallow wells, which exposed them to waterborne diseases.  This situation not only affected household health and hygiene but also reduced school attendance for children and limited productive time for families.

After: Fully repaired and functional borehole

💧 AFTER RESTORATION

Following the successful intervention by swimwearbali.com , the boreholes have now been fully restored and are once again providing clean, safe, and reliable water to the community.  Residents now have access to safe water within their locality, significantly reducing the time spent fetching water. This improvement has enhanced hygiene practices, lowered the risk of waterborne diseases, and improved the overall quality of life.  Women and children, who were most affected, are now able to focus more on education, income-generating activities, and daily household needs.

2nd BOREHOLE.

Before: Broken/damaged borehole site

BEFORE RESTORATION

Prior to the repair, this borehole had been non-functional for a long period, leaving the surrounding community without a dependable source of clean water.   Residents were forced to rely on contaminated water sources, including stagnant streams and unprotected water points. These conditions increased the risk of waterborne illnesses and created daily hardship, as community members had to spend significant time and energy searching for water.    The breakdown of this borehole placed a heavy burden on families and disrupted normal daily activities, particularly affecting children and elderly members of the community.

After: Fully repaired and functional borehole

💧 AFTER RESTORATION

With the successful repair of the borehole, the community now has renewed access to a safe and consistent water supply.   The restored water source is serving households efficiently, reducing the need to travel long distances and eliminating dependence on unsafe water. This has brought immediate improvements in sanitation, health, and overall wellbeing.   The borehole is now a reliable and sustainable resource, strengthening the community’s resilience and supporting a healthier, more stable daily life

Community Response

The response from the community was immediate and powerful. Families expressed relief and gratitude as access to clean water was restored within their reach.  What may seem like a simple repair has brought dignity, health, and renewed hope to everyday life.

When we visited the community, they took us to the place where they have been getting water from—a stream.

It was difficult to see that this is what they had been depending on for their daily needs. The water was coming from an open stream, exposed and unsafe, clearly full of germs. Yet for them, this was the only available source of water for drinking, cooking, and all household use.

In that moment, I truly understood the level of risk the community lives with every day. Using such water is not just a challenge of convenienc it is a serious health concern, especially for children and vulnerable families who are most affected by waterborne diseases.

Seeing this firsthand gave real meaning to the borehole repair project. It was no longer just about fixing a broken system, but about replacing unsafe water with a reliable and clean source. It highlighted the urgent need for sustainable access to safe water. This experience reinforces our commitment to continue supporting communities with practical solutions that protect health, restore dignity, and improve everyday living conditions.

We would like to sincerely appreciate our supporter, Swimwear Bali (swimwearbali.com), for standing with us in this borehole repair project.      Your support came at a very important moment when the community was in urgent need of access to safe and clean water. Because of this partnership, we were able to respond to a real situation where families had been depending on an unsafe stream as their main water source. This contribution has gone beyond just funding a repair it has directly impacted lives by helping restore access to safer water, reducing health risks, and easing the daily burden on families who previously had no reliable alternative.
