A Humble Beginning-A Hopeful Tomorrow
Transforming Lives Through Education, Care & Compassion
Founded in 2015 by Kalenzi Alex, FURAHA Foundation began with a dream to give children access to education and hope. Today, we support orphans, widows, and vulnerable families through schools, relief programs, and community care. Our journey has changed many lives, but our mission continues—building brighter futures, one child at a time.

FURAHA MEANS WHAT?
The word “Furaha” is of Swahili origin and means “happiness” or “joy.” It represents a sense of contentment, celebration, and positive emotions, which aligns with the mission of Furaha Junior School and Furaha Foundation in bringing joy and opportunities to the children and communities they serve.

Joan was a young girl who faced unimaginable hardship. After losing both her parents, she stayed with her grandmother, but when she passed away, Joan was left alone on the streets. Vulnerable and without support, her early life was marked by struggle and uncertainty.
Through Furaha, children like Joan can find safety, care, and hope—showing that even the most difficult circumstances can be transformed with love and support.
Support our efforts to reach out to vulnerable members of the community, including orphans, widows, and elderly people, providing them with resources, education, and care.

Get To Know Us
We are committed to transforming lives by providing vulnerable children with access to quality education, a safe and nurturing home, and the opportunity to realize their potential.
Many orphanages, especially in low-income countries, lack proper oversight and accountability. This makes children vulnerable to neglect, abuse, and exploitation. Some orphanages even operate as businesses, keeping children in poor conditions to attract foreign donations.
Orphanages Do Not Prepare Children for the Future
Growing up in an institution often leaves children ill-equipped for independent life. Many struggle to integrate into society once they leave, lacking the life skills, family connections, and emotional support needed to succeed. Family-based care and community support give children a stronger foundation for adulthood.
Studies show that 80-90% of children in orphanages have at least one living parent or extended family member. Poverty, rather than the loss of parents, is often the main reason children end up in orphanages. Instead of separating children from their families, we should focus on supporting families and communities to care for them.
If we truly care about vulnerable children, we must shift from funding orphanages to supporting families, empowering communities, and promoting sustainable solutions. Every child deserves a home—not just a bed in an institution.
